AFoCR CHICAGO 2009 GALA

The American Friends of the Czech Republic celebrated with a Gala event on 11/10/09 in Chicago, a city with a long and lively relationship with the Czech people.  The 20th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution was commemorated and AFoCR took this opportunity to pay tribute to Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley by awarding him with the Civil Society Vision Award for his outstanding efforts in forging close ties between Chicago and the Czech Republic. This gala event was part of an important initiative to rebuild the Woodrow Wilson Monument in Prague, dedicated in 1928 as a symbol of the extraordinary friendship between our countries and destroyed by the Nazi occupiers during World War II. The gala was a great success with guests from all over the United States and Europe who joined in the celebration.
